Doing Our Best To Walk Our Talk

In every way possible, Tucson Green Times strives to be responsible to our advertisers and staff, to our 100,000+ readers, to the Tucson community of people we serve and the natural environment in which we operate.

  • We are a major publication in Tucson using vegetable-based soy ink with CMYK pigments, and 100% recycled newsprint -- which means the paper we print on already has been used by the end consumer and then collected for recycling from various recycling programs, including other newsprint -- and then made into paper again. No virgin trees were cut down to make our paper. We promote an aggressive recycling program to readers.
  • We believe in civic journalism.  Our intent is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires.
  • We endorse the Earth Charter (www.EarthCharter.org), a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society for the 21st century. Created by the largest global consultation process ever associated with an international declaration, endorsed by thousands of organizations representing millions of individuals, the Earth Charter seeks to inspire in all peoples a sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the human family and the larger living world. The Earth Charter is an expression of hope and a call to help create a global partnership at a critical juncture in history.
  • We gift 5% of pre-tax profits to local community non-profits - based on input from local readers.
  • We operate with ideas and advice from a Community Advisory Board comprised of local Tucson residents.
  • We believe in the power of the individual to change the world, and we believe that process begins at home in our own community first.
  • We defend democracy, human rights, fair trade, social responsibility and the principal of sustainability in all human enterprise.
  • We respect the body, the mind and the spirit's extraordinary power to heal.
  • We celebrate the interrelatedness of all living systems.
  • We are committed to a future of harmony, compassion and respect for all living things.
  • We support The Peace Alliance campaign to establish a U.S. Department of Peace (http://www.thepeacealliance.org/) – a citizen lobbying effort to create a national Department of Peace that would develop policies and allocate resources to reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse, and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department would advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and techniques regarding peace-creation among nations.
  • We are a member of the following Tucson groups:
